Projects will vary in length depending on the scope, resources available and your existing knowledge.

I’ve had projects in my old job where I’ve started from scratch and finished everything from circuit design, manufacture and firmware programming in a matter of weeks. Currently I’ve been working on the same project for the last 6 months and I’m not entirely sure how much more work is going to go into it and it’s almost entirely a programming project.

How long is a piece of string? Like Will has said, it depends so much on the scale of the project, it could be anywhere from a few weeks to a few years. Similarly, the work input depends on the size of your team, it could be one person full time and a few others helping, or it could be a 20 person team working full time.
