I love being an engineer. We are all human so we have our lazy moments (which sometimes means we need a break/holiday 😀 ), but it is important to have that self-motivation to do your work. Making good friends with people at work also helps!

Self discipline is important! I too like taking a load off and relaxing every now and then. Sometimes I’d rather stay home in my pyjamas playing video games than go to work.

What I find though is that I enjoy what I do more than I enjoy sitting around being lazy. It’s one of the reasons I roll myself out of bed in the morning because I want to get to work and make stuff!

I love being an engineer. I find it very rewarding, especially when I see a finished building that I worked on. You do have to work quite hard, but it is easier to do that than it was in school, as I’m working on stuff that is much more interesting to me.

I was also lazy in school. But then I realised that I’m not lazy when I’m doing something that actually makes a difference and makes something better! And that is pretty much the story of how I ended up studying biomedical engineering at university. Perhaps you might feel like you want to do things more if you care about them? If you want to find out if engineering is the kind of thing that makes you want to work, then you could try the Smallpeice Trust: they do residential courses to teach people in school about what engineering is (www.smallpeicetrust.org.uk)!
